By Matt Stolow - Top Rank's Bob Arum and Todd duBoef are now en route back to Las Vegas after successfully completing talks Saturday night and Sunday afternoon to bring the Manny Pacquiao vs. Joshua Clottey fight to Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas Saturday, March 13.
The official press conference will be Monday, January 18 at the stadium and again in New York City Tuesday, January 19.
March 13 is the firm date. Cowboys Stadium has a moto-cross event booked for March 20.
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has bought the live gate for the fight but I imagine Top Rank comes back in for an overage at some point. Jones will keep any new sponsorships his staff can scrounge up.
Only 61 days remain until the fight. The event will be scaled to seat 50,000 fans.
The Cowboys will probably first contact almost 80,000 season ticket holders they have as possible ticket buyers.
It is not for certain if HBO PPV will be handle the broadcast or if Top Rank will do it themselves.
I have read unsubstantiated reports of Floyd Mayweather, Jr. also wanting to fight that same night and on pay-per-view but I haven't seen confirmation of this.
I would imagine this is a bluff on Mayweather's behalf to annoy Arum and Pacquiao but anything is possible.
It appears in addition to the Pacquiao vs. Clottey main event, three additional fights will be televised for a total of four for the pay-per-view audience in addition to other non-televised fights.
Roberto Marroquin, a Top Rank (11-0 (8 KO's) left-handed super bantamweight prospect from Dallas will be on the card according to Arum.
Arum wants controversial former World Boxing Council welterweight champion Antonio Margarito to make his comeback from a one year suspension on the card and already has begun the licensing requirement according to Texas' chief boxing inspector Dick Cole.
